SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA – An event of the utmost civic and social significance is just around the corner for the community of Santo Stefano. The upcoming May 25, 2026, the centrally located Piazza San Giordano will be transformed into a forum for reflection and discussion on the occasion of the “Days of Legality and Remembrance”. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the special guest will be Father Luigi Ciotti, founder of Libera and a leading figure in the fight against the Mafia in Italy. The event, aptly titled “From Memory to Commitment”, is not intended to be a mere celebration of the past, but rather a bridge to the future, aimed at transforming the memory of the victims into everyday civic action. The event is structured as an open dialogue between Don Ciotti, young people, and the entire community. It is a morning of listening and participation that was strongly supported and organized by the municipal administration, in close collaboration with local educational agencies: the"Luigi Pirandello" Comprehensive High School in Bivona and the“A. Manzoni” Comprehensive School, demonstrating just how much schools are the first real line of defense in fostering an anti-Mafia mindset.
The Mayor's Statement
The importance of the event for the country's social fabric is underscored by the Mayor Francesco Cacciatore, who, on behalf of the entire City Administration, expressed deep satisfaction with the initiative:
“Welcoming Don Luigi Ciotti to Santo Stefano Quisquina is an immense honor for us and, at the same time, a great responsibility,” says Mayor Cacciatore. “The title we have chosen, ‘From Memory to Commitment,’ encapsulates the profound meaning of this day: memory must never be a futile exercise or an empty ritual, but rather the driving force behind our daily actions. We want our young people, as they look Don Ciotti in the eye and listen to his words, to understand the importance of choosing which side to stand on.
