Agrigento 2025, Italian Capital of Culture, will host an event of profound cultural and spiritual significance: “The Olive Tree and Olive Oil in the Bible: A Journey Through Symbols, Faith, and the Culture of Olive Oil.” The event will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Collegio dei Filippini in Agrigento, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The initiative, organized by the Terra di Dedalo APS association, is part of an effort to promote the historical, agricultural, and spiritual heritage associated with one of the oldest and most significant trees in the Mediterranean: the olive tree.
A Journey Through Symbolism and Spirituality
The event promises to be a narrative and sensory journey that combines historical memory and education with the allure of biblical symbols. The olive tree and its precious oil, in fact, appear in the Holy Scriptures as powerful emblems of peace, reconciliation, blessing, and consecration.
The highlight of the event will be the keynote address delivered by Prof. Don Emanuele Massimo Musso. A professor and author of several books on ethics, the Christian life, and biblical meditation, Don Musso will guide participants through an in-depth analysis:
The Resilience of the Olive Tree: The tree, capable of living a long time even under difficult conditions, will be explored as a symbol of faith, hope, and stability.
The Spiritual Meaning of Oil: We will explore the use of olive oil in the anointing of kings, prophets, and priests as a sign of the divine presence.
Oil as “Light”: Its role in the temple lamps will be restored, symbolizing God’s guidance and presence.
Program and Tasting
The day will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the welcome and registration of participants. This will be followed, at 4:45 p.m., by a brief introduction on how to conduct a professional tasting of extra virgin olive oil (EVO).
At 5:00 p.m., Prof. Don Emanuele Massimo Musso will deliver the Lectio Magistralis.
To conclude, there will be a moment dedicated to the senses with a final tasting of bread, olive oil, and oregano—all made with local products from the Agrigento region—which will allow you to experience firsthand the excellence of the region’s extra virgin olive oil.
