THE AUTHOR
Kiaris is recognized as a painter who is deeply aware of the significance of the act of painting in the contemporary era, often described as “deafening” due to technology. His art is imbued with a “silent dedication” that transforms every intuition through the sensory transfiguration of color.
Key points of his poetic philosophy:
Synthesis of Values: His painting is seen as a synthesis of ancestral values and emotions projected toward the future.
Technique and Materials: Kiaris prefers to use industrial tempera applied to jute canvas. This technical choice allows him greater control over the execution of his work, facilitating the layering of colors and the definition of the pigments.
The Theme of the “Diaphragm” and the “Curtain”: Much of his work, including the “Diaphragms” cycle, revolves around the idea of a chromatic unveiling. His works are characterized by layers of color that overlap and take shape through a succession of painting stages, reflecting a daily, ritualistic practice of thinking about and creating painting.
Light and Shadow: His canvases offer an experience of intense perceptibility, where the transparencies and layering of the visible reveal extended depths and “imperceptible reverberations of shadows hidden within the luminous splendor of the background colors.” Kiaris does not merely represent; she experiences painting as a process that balances the gestural dynamism of color with the rhythmic variations of its “dreamlike evolution.” This approach makes his dialogue with Pirandello—an author focused on the relationship between truth and appearance (the mask)—particularly significant.
